Costa Blanca - The Heart of Spain

Costa Blanca - The Heart of Spain

Costa Blanca – The Heart of Spain

Costa Blanca is located on the East Coast of Spain and incorporates the well known destinations of Valencia, Alicante and Benidorm. It is a very popular tourist resort for a variety of reasons- both among families and groups of younger people- who tend to appear in peak seasons for the stunning weather and nightlife. The beaches in Costa Blanca are very popular amongst both groups however:- with rolling miles of fine, golden- white sand (where the region gets it’s name) and gorgeous blue seas. Many of the beaches have been awarded with the European Blue Flag for cleanliness. There are many hotels, villas and apartments on offer to tourists- and a large amount of these hotels are found situated a mere stone’s throw from these aforementioned beaches.

What with being a coastal region; Costa Blanca is host to a wide range of activities to keep tourists and locals alike occupied- popular water sports include jet skiing, water skiing, parascending, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing. If you would prefer to stay out of the water, then golf is a popular choice with over 15 courses located in and around Costa Blanca. Tuition is available and there are facilities for you to hire all of the equipment. Hiking is definitely recommended as it is a great way to see the mountainous landscapes of Costa Blanca and experience some amazing views. There are also a variety of theme parks in the Region- there are a few water parks and even a safari park- though it can be speculated that these are more family orientated outings.

Although Spanish Cuisine is obviously the food one will come across the most Costa Blanca offers a variety of different cuisines such as Indian, British, Italian and Chinese to name a few and the nightlife of Costa Blanca is exceptional and a favourite with tourists every year. There is karaoke, cocktails, live entertainment, live music and clubs with various music played almost every night. What with the Costa Blanca being such a popular tourist resort and what with it being fairly populated it is home to a number of supermarkets and shopping centers- there are are plenty of chances to shop and many different products on offer. These include clothing, designer clothing, jewellery, souvenirs, electronic goods and small crafts:- you tend to find the latter in quiet village retreats- many of these can be accessed through tours with guides telling you local histories, stories and showing you various attractions in the villages- like honey farms etc.

Costa Blanca is a destination that gives off hot temperatures during the summer and has mild winters. During the summer, temperatures have been known to reach 40°C, although mainly they stay at a solid 30°C. One may find this sun shining for at least 12 hours a day in the summer- with (very) occasional rainfall in the winter.

The region’s public transport is exemplary- regular bus and train services are utlilised by thousands regularly and there are several companies incorporating car hire Valencia is a prime example of an urban area where one may obtain such a method of transportation.

The Costa Blanca makes an ideal holiday destination for all the family, whether you want to sample the delights of Benidorm nightlife, spend your time at leisure on some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean or enjoy the mountain scenery that lies inland all along this stretch of the coastline.
The Costa Blanca stretches down the Mediterranean coast of Spain practically from Valencia City in the north, down past the towns of Gandía, Denia, Javea and Altea before reaching the most famous of all – Benidorm. South from Benidorm, the Costa Blanca includes Villajoyosa, the city of Alicante, Torrevieja and down to Cartagena. Practically all along this beautiful area of coastline you will find some of the best beaches anywhere and a climate that varies from mild during the winter months to sometimes intensely hot in the height of summer.

Getting there presents no great difficulty either, as the area is served by no less than three airports – Valencia in the north, Alicante, and now increasingly also Murcia in the south. All these airports are destinations for the popular budget and charter airlines from a wide variety of departure points in the UK, so it has never been easier to make the Costa Blanca your holiday destination if you are booking independently.

With a wide choice of accommodation to be found on the internet, you can rent a villa or apartment, book rooms in a hotel or guest house, or of course have the whole thing done for you by booking a package holiday. Last minute holidays are often also to be found on-line, and many a bargain can be had if you have the flexibility to travel mid-week, for example.

Benidorm undoubtedly has the greatest amount of accommodation available in any given resort along the Costa Blanca, and has been trying hard recently to live down its reputation as a lager-lout destination. The old town of Benidorm has lovely winding streets and quaint corners to explore, whilst the modern parts have some of the finest hotels and holiday accommodation you could hope to find anywhere. Add to this, the fact that Benidorm has not one but two of the finest beaches you could wish for, Poniente and Levante, and you can understand why many people come to Benidorm for their holiday and never venture far afield. With bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs, as well as the justifiably famous Benidorm Palace Hotel with its excellent cabaret performances, there really is something for everyone, whatever their age. The town also has countless visitor attractions for daytime entertainment if you want a change from lying by your hotel pool or on the beach, with a wide choice of theme parks like Terra Mitica for those who like roller-coaster rides, Aqualandia for water lovers, and Mundo Mar or Terra Natura for animal, dolphin and bird lovers.

However, if you want to stay somewhere else on the Costa Blanca, there are plenty of alternatives to choose from. Moraira to the south is a lovely but less well known spot with the Del Portet beach, sheltered by the headland. A beautiful harbour and marina make Moraira a picturesque holiday destination with lots to do and it’s within easy reach of all the other facilities along the Costa Blanca as well. The same can be said for resorts such as Denia, Altea and Calpe which all lie slightly to the north, but which all have superb beaches and plenty of nightlife too.

It is easy to find plenty of travel reviews on line these days if you are considering making any sort of holiday booking, so have a look to see what other travellers have thought of the Costa Blanca as a destination. Whether you feel inclined to sample the more hectic surroundings of Benidorm itself or whether you want to go for an altogether more away-from-it-all experience, there is little doubt that the Costa Blanca can fit the bill perfectly. From culture and the city of Valencia itself, to small mountain villages and remote castles, or from water park madness to sedate natural beauty, the Costa Blanca has it all waiting for you to discover!

Spain’s Costa Blanca is well served by both Valencia and Alicante airports, so depending on your departure point in the UK you will find a huge choice of economical flights at your disposal. Once here, there is no shortage of resorts to provide accommodation and entertainment at exceptionally good prices at this time of the year. Depending on your preferences, you could choose a holiday with city sightseeing as your main focus, driving around in the scenic mountains that lie close by, hill walking, golfing, or just relaxing in the warm sunshine. Spend a week on the Costa Blanca, and you could easily do the lot!!

The famous resorts that the Costa Blanca is so well known for include of course Benidormwith its endless choice of bars and evening entertainment, but also many other places that cater for the foreign visitor. Altea, with its lovely, old town centre and church is well worth a visit, and Villajoyosa is another gem along this stretch of the coast, with a truly beautiful old town and harbour area. Calpe and Denia are also places maybe not so well known to the British holidaymaker, but they have spectacular beaches, lovely harbours and quaint old town centres as well. Working northwards up the coast, the historical town of Gandia is even less well known to the British holidaymaker, but is the number one holiday destination in Spain for the Spanish themselves – and it is not hard to see why. With a truly spectacular award winning beach, Playa de Gandia is about 3kms away from the main town and boasts a huge choice of restaurants, bars and nightclubs as well as a casino to entertain the visitor. The main town of Gandia itself has lots of high quality shopping, historical sights and a vibrant weekly market to attract people from far and wide.

Go just a little further north, and you come to Valencia City itself. Spain’s third city has literally everything to offer the visitor, and most of it all within walking distance. From a fascinating and rich historic centre to stunningly modern iconic architecture, Valencia is a beautiful destination with so much to see, and all set around public gardens that wind right through the whole city, following the bed of the River Turia that was diverted around the town four decades ago.

Villa Florencia is an ideally located base for your Costa Blanca Holiday, just over an hour north of Alicante by car, 40 minutes south of Valencia (or conveniently placed for the train to the city too), and within easy driving range of any of the other places and attractions along the coast or inland. Only minutes away from the A7 motorway, yet set in a completely rural environment near to Gandia town, now is an even better time to come.
